The Central Bank of Ireland is responsible for the regulation of all financial services firms in Ireland. It also has an important role in the protection of the consumers of those firms. Its main tasks are: • Help consumers to make informed decisions on their financial affairs in a safe and fair market; and • Foster sound, growing and solvent financial institutions which give consumers confidence that their deposits and investments are secure. The Irish Brokers Association is the largest professional body of insurance brokers and represents over 500 insurance intermediaries regulated by the Financial Regulator. The Insurance Ombudsman of Ireland The Insurance Ombudsman of Ireland provides independent settlement of disputes between personal policyholders and their insurance company. The Insurance Institute of Ireland The Insurance Institute of Ireland is dedicated to the development of professional people through education and training for the insurance and related financial services sector. The Insurance Institute has been the leading professional and educational body for the insurance industry and its current membership stands at over 8,000. The Irish Insurance Federation The Irish Insurance Federation is the representative association for insurance companies in Ireland. The objectives of the Federation are: "To influence the domestic and international regulatory, legal, political and social environments in which our members operate, in order to advance the interests of our customers." The Board regulates occupational pension schemes and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts in Ireland as part of its statutory role to monitor and supervise operation of the Pensions Act as well as advising the Minister for Social and Family Affairs on pension matters generally. The Board protects the interests of pension scheme members and encourages pension provision. The Board has a wide range of general pensions information on its site. The Pensions Ombudsman investigates and decides complaints and disputes involving occupational pension schemes and Personal Retirement Savings Accounts (PRSAs).
